"Working Like a Dog!"

This series is designed to feature dogs that are working in our communities and enriching the lives of others. Let's kick it off with the beautiful Luna, the Heart of Head Start!

𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗗𝗼𝗴: 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗟𝘂𝗻𝗮, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁

In the busy classrooms of North Central Iowa, one dedicated staff member stands out—mostly because she has four paws and a wagging tail. Meet Luna, a 4-year-old Goldendoodle who is redefining what it means to "work like a dog."

𝗔 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗼

Luna isn't your average pet; she’s a therapy dog with a very important job. Luna works for Head Start where she goes into the classroom to visit with preschoolers. Her "office" spans across Webster, Wright, Humboldt, and Hamilton counties. Luna provides a calming, non-judgmental presence that helps little learners feel safe and excited to be at school.

𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘁𝘆 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝗲

When she isn't busy being the ultimate classroom companion, Luna takes her role as "Official Office Greeter" very seriously. With her friendly doodle personality, she’s the first to welcome anyone who walks through the door. She takes pride in announcing every single trespasser in front of the office to the entire staff.

𝗢𝗳𝗳-𝗗𝘂𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝘁

Every hardworking professional needs some downtime. When the workday is done, Luna heads home with her owner and handler to live the good life. Her favorite hobby is chasing the squirrels in the backyard. Above all, she loves babies and little kids, making her the perfect fit for her job and her home life.

Luna is a shining example of how therapy dogs make a tangible difference in our communities every day. Whether she’s helping a preschooler find their confidence or keeping the office "safe" from the mail carrier, she’s always working hard with a wagging tail.
